Professional
Experience
| Wincor-Nixdorf, Austin, TX |
March2005 - Present |
Software Engineer
Developed web applications to manage internal processes such as QA, Sales and Products, tracking Issues in a searchable knowledgebase. Integrated credit card processing into Taco Bell POS systems, and helped connect other POS systems to ISCAN (the Wincor-Nixdorf self check out system for retail stores)
| Intelliflix, West Palm Beach, FL |
August 2004 - March 2005 |
Lead Software Developer
Created the core application for a start up company that linked independent video stores across the country to a central dvd-by-mail website, allowing them to compete directly with Netflix and Blockbuster. The client-based inventory control software tied directly into the existing POS systems, alerting users when new online orders arrived. Also helped develop and maintain Intelliflix.com, and the template-driven sites used by the video store owners (24hourvideo.com)
| BCL Technologies, Inc. Santa Clara, CA |
June 2001 - August 2004 |
Project Management
Lead several mission critical projects,
guiding teams through each phase of the product
development lifecycle. These included server
side processing products, document management
software, and web services. Involved in business
development and communicated with high profile
clients such as Macromedia. Assisted in customer
support and supervised new product versions
and upgrades.

project to perform research and development as a computational
linguist. Developed cutting-edge applications such as the Spoken
Language User Interface toolkit and contributed to several
patents and publications. Wrote and edited grant proposals,
designed project specs and gave presentations in order to help
secure phase II funding for the Army Knowledge Management Center
project.

Software Development
Helped develop and commercialize the
Xilinx Serial PROM Programmer, a hardware device
used to write information to Xilinx parts. Added
support for Motorola S-Record file format as
well as corrected some *.mcs file operations,
helped correct reset polarity bit problems, added
support for several new device families, and
upgraded the buffer viewing options. Also designed
the RJ website and online ordering system.
Special
Project Highlights
Intellibar Enterprise is
a software application that runs on a workstation at each
video store location and monitors all incoming Intelliflix
orders. It automatically alerts dealers when new orders arrive,
and allows them to view & acknowledge orders. The software
integrates directly with the existing POS system, and automatically
updates the Intelliflix server with information about the
local video inventory. When dealers check an item out to the
"Intelliflix Customer" in the POS, it is checked
out on the backend, and a label is automatically printed out.
BCL WebContent is an extension
for Macromedia Dreamweaver that allows users to import PDF
files as HTML. I was responsible for developing this product,
which was written in C++ and Javascript and used the DW C-Level
SDK. Macromedia featured this product as one of their “top
pick” extensions, and purchased a license to include
it in their Development Resource Kit 5. WebContent is also
featured in the book, Dreamweaver Bible by Joe Lowery.
PageView
Server converts a
specified set
of documents
to HTML, and
then creates
a dynamic web
portal to allow
users to access
the files online.
goBCL.com is a free online
document conversion
service. Users
upload documents
to the server
and goBCL converts
them into either
PDF or HTML
and emails
them back.
I was the project
manager overseeing
the renovation
and optimization
of the site,
which lead
to a dramatic
increase in
traffic and
indirectly
boosted sales
for the parent
company.
Magellan converts
any file into
HTML while
preserving
the format,
graphics, tables
and text. I
had the opportunity
to prototype
and implement
a new set of
features for
the HTML output
such as search,
print, zoom,
page jump,
and thumbnail
navigation.
I also developed
many components
of the new
UI such as
FTP support,
tabbed options,
instant HTML
update, and
thumbnail preview
during generation.
VoiceMP3 allows
users to control
music playback
by speaking
the titles
of songs, and
VoiceContact
lets users
dial numbers
by speaking
digits or by
speaking someone’s
a name. I helped
develop and
commercialize
these two voice
recognition
products for
PocketPC, contributing
to grammar
file creation,
playlist support,
custom error
voices, tutorial
mode, click-and-release
recognition
capability,
and supporting
UI skins. We
used Embedded
C++ and the
IBM ViaVoice
SDK to develop
these products.
