design and optimization, as well as server side data processing. |

Intelliflix is an online movie rental company. I was offered the opportunity to completely redesign the graphical interface of their movie queue system, and users are now able to rearrange items in their rental queue though an intuitive drag-and-drop mechanism. This DHTML-intensive project was written in PHP and Javascript.
After this project, I was offered the position of Lead Software Developer. At Intelliflix, I created software that linked independent video rental stores together across the country. In doing so, we were able to build a network of inventory hubs that allowed the independent stores to compete online with Netflix and Blockbuster (FTD style).
The application was written in C# and connected to a .NET webservice.

pdfonline.com is
a free online document conversion service. Users upload documents
to the server (or email them in) and the service converts
them into either PDF or HTML and emails them back to the user.
The purpose of the site is to generate interest in the core
technologies driving the document conversion process. It showcases
two products from BCL Technologies, and demonstrates that they
can be implemented in an enterprise-level environment.
We knew that there was definitely a need
for such a service, but in the first 2 years of operation, pdfonline
only attracted a small number of users. I lead a 3-person team to
determine
why
the site wasn’t more popular, and then to completely renovate
the site. Through our efforts, we managed to increase the user base
by more than 10x, and we received dozens of emails from our users
thanking us for providing the service.
We found that the number one deterrent of pdfonline was that users
had to sign up to use the service. We were able to redesign the
site so that users could instantly upload documents, view the
status of their documents, and view their conversion history..
Finally, we figured out several ways to dramatically increase
our search engine rankings. In Google, if you search for the
common words, convert
pdf, you get 75 million hits. We came
up with some clever tricks to get our site listed first.
goBCL.com is written in ASP, and the conversion process uses
Magellan and easyPDF Workflow Server.

scbn.org I built a web application for SCBN that automatically populates and merges PDF files with medical information so that patients can easily apply for free medication through patient assistance programs. (PHP, MySQL, PDFTK)
freelancedaily.net I created a website scraping application for freelancedaily that automatically spidered other sites for various job postings, and formats them into a newsletter. The service saved 4 hours of manual processing. (PHP, MySQL)
Automatic Order Printing System The Order Management
system I developed for Roman Jones, Inc. included an administration
page where web orders could be viewed and edited before the
items were shipped. The system was further extended with an Automatic Order Printing System that ran as a service in the server’s task tray bar. It monitored incoming orders and automatically printed out the invoice on the office printer. (ASP, Access, VB, SOAP)
Click to Chat At BCL Technologies, I was responsible for developing the Click to Chat web service. We had been using the online customer chat service from LivePerson.com, which allowed the sales team to exchange instant messages with visitors that came to the web site. The “Click to Chat” program replaced the service with a web browser pop up chat window that communicated directly with a small program running in the sales representative’s task tray bar. (ASP, Access, VB, SOAP)
